What motivates you as a nurse practitioner?
Why choose a nursing career?
When choosing a nursing career, there are plenty of options to choose from. With so many different paths you could take, it can be difficult to decide which one is the right fit for you. One option that’s often overlooked is nursing. It’s an important and challenging field and one that’s always in high demand. Nurses are the heart of the healthcare system. I chose nursing because I have the need to touch patients’ lives in a positive way, making a difference in their health and wellbeing. Advocating for patients and working to ensure their safety and wellbeing is my top priority. The roles of nurses are constantly evolving, and this makes nursing a unique and rewarding career choice. Nurses are on the front line of healthcare, and they have a unique opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. In life, the health and well-being of an individual are among the most important life aspects.
As a nurse, being in a position to show compassion and care for my patients helps me develop trustworthy relationships with them and their families. Nurses also enjoy a variety of career options like working in hospitals, clinics, schools, or other healthcare settings. Personally, I have worked in hospitals and various clinic settings. This made me get exposed to the healthcare system and other healthcare professionals from whom I learned new skills for nursing practice. Nurses can make various choices like specializing in a particular area of nursing, such as pediatrics, neonatal care, or oncology. This helps us acquire more knowledge and skills in nursing care and create good relations with patients and individuals. All these factors make nursing an exciting and rewarding career choice, as it is a great opportunity for professional growth.
What are the roles of a nurse?
Nurses have a variety of roles, with each role having its own set of responsibilities and challenges, but all nurses share one common goal: to provide quality care to their patients. Nurses are patient advocates. From providing bedside care and emotional support to advocating for patients’ rights and safety, nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system. Most often, they are the first and only point of contact for patients and their families, so they need to be able to build trust and rapport quickly. In my nursing career, I always find it satisfying to be the first contact person an individual gets as it helps me provide nursing care with the aim of regaining their health wholly. It’s also important to know how to handle difficult conversations, such as discussing end-of-life care or delivering sad news to patients or their families. This will help in navigating the complex medical system and advocating for patients when needed.

What are the different types of nursing?
Nursing is a unique and diverse field with a variety of different career paths. There are opportunities to work in hospitals, clinics, schools, prisons, and even on cruise ships. No matter which path you choose, nursing is a career that is motivated by helping others. Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system and are responsible for providing direct patient care. There are three main types of nursing: direct-patient care, indirect patient care, and administration.
Direct-patient care nurses work with patients one-on-one and provide hands-on care. Indirect-patient care nurses work in call centers or in other roles that don’t involve patient contact. And administration nurses manage the nursing staff and work in hospital management or policymaking. What motivates you to become a nurse may vary depending on the type of nursing you choose to do.
