My Academic and Professional Goals
My name is xx. I am originally from xxand became a nurse in 2012. I started my nursing career as a bedside nurse in the Med-Surg unit then fell in love with wound treatments and became a wound care superuser in the unit. My formal employer then offered me to go through a wound care certification program and I was able to achieve wound, ostomy, and continence certification after special training. Since then, I had worked as a wound, ostomy, and continence nurse in a local medical center for the adult population for 3 years, and now I’m currently employed at a pediatric hospital as an inpatient wound/ostomy specialist for the last 2 years. Then my desire to grow professionally made me look up a graduate school starting early this year. One of my kind former colleagues who graduated from Walden MSN-AGPCNP program a couple of years ago recommended Walden MSN program and I started researching Walden University and its MSN programs.
ORDER AN ESSAY HERE
Walden’s vision, mission, goals, and social change focus on producing highly knowledgeable scholar-practitioners to society to make better communities in the world (Walden, n.d.-a). Earning knowledge from Walden throughout the program and degree will achieve my academic goals to gain more depth of education level and will prepare me to be a reflective scholar-partitioner. As a nurse practitioner, I will be able to apply my knowledge to provide high-quality care to my patients and communities. High-quality healthcare practice will impact our society to be more positive and brilliant and that is something we all need especially after the dark age of the COVID pandemic.
Walden MSN-FNP program will help me to achieve my academic goals by learning how to utilize evidence-based literature, more in-depth patient health assessment, diagnoses, health plans, interventions, and evaluation, and differentiate between a registered nurse and a family nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, I will be able to define my role as an independent healthcare provider and serve practice to many diverse populations (Walden, n.d.-b).
The Healthcare system and technology change rapidly in the world. As scholar-practitioners, there is no way that we know everything already and there are new skills and techniques always coming up in our society to provide a better quality of care. Schmidt (n.d.) emphasizes how the importance of networking in healthcare to advance professional careers as a nurse. As a wound, ostomy, and incontinence nurse, I have been utilizing a WOCN association, UOAA, and Facebook groups to enhance my current practice and learn new skills and products constantly. Also sharing experiences in professional networking is a great source to learn new aspects and contribute to making a better healthcare system. For my academic goals, networking will help me understand the course works and feel more connections to classmates and professors especially since attending an online school.

NURS 6003 networking opportunities module 1: discussion sample 2
My name is xx and I have been working as a bedside nurse for the past 12 years. I have worked in the ER, a couple acute Psychiatric units, multiple medical surgical units, and also in long term care/geriatrics. I have been out of the education world for 4 years, I decided it is time to get back to my original goal, of obtaining my Master’s degree in nursing, with focus on Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
My professional and academic goals during this program are to adequately balance work, school, and family. I also plan to work harder with networking. I normally tend to shy away from meeting new people or holding conversations with others, that in actuality, may be able to add benefit to my career and/or my education. I have been working on becoming less introverted over the past few years of my adult life, so I am going to continue to work on this as a professional goal. The Walden University mission is to “provide a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so that they can effect positive social change” (University, 2022). Improving my networking skills will allow me to be more diversified during this program, in my current and future career, and overall in life.
I plan to continue to learn and grow not only just today, or over the next couple years but for the rest of my years. I plan to attempt to become more open, diversified, to be better with not just professionally networking, but actively networking.
Before this semester even began, I noticed it was highlighted that we should join the Facebook group for the upcoming class. In doing so, we are able to actively network with our fellow classmates. We as students, are able to determine if we have things in common that make each other relatable such as being a single mother, workings while being enrolled in classes, demographic locations, or even if we have been out of the education world for a long period of time. We are able to share our fears, our thoughts, bounce ideas off of each other, or remind each other that we are not alone. This is a way of networking professionally and socially. According to an article on BluePipes, “Professional networking is the best way for nurses to find jobs and is imperative to nursing career advancement” (Schmidt, 2012-2022). Networking will be beneficial for myself, to find sites to complete practicum hours for the MSN program and during the time spent at these sites, networking would be even more beneficial to secure a job if I feel that it would be a great fit for my future career.
