One of the clinical objectives that will be incorporated during my clinical rotations will be ordering laboratory and imaging tests, and then analyzing those results for subacute and complex chronic patients. This objective is an easy one to choose because it is a crucial component for managing patients in the ICU, without knowing about the patients lab values or imaging it is hard to determine what is happening with them and mistakes could be made with their diagnoses and treatments. There are many complications that require specific tests to be completed to properly diagnose, such as CTA/MRI to confirm a diagnosis of an acute hemorrhagic stroke, or something as simple as a procalcitonin level which can help confirm the presence of an infection which can help guide the next steps to figuring out the patients illness (Kan et al., 2021).

The next clinical objective that will absolutely get incorporated is to recommend treatment options and management of care for patients according to evidence-based guidelines. When managing the care of our patients and their treatment options it is a standard of practice to utilize evidence-based guidelines because these have been shown to be effective and are scientifically supported, and peer-reviewed and evaluated, as the preferred treatment methods (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). Being able to refer to the studies done by clinical experts through Care-on-point or up-to-date, allows us to give the best treatments and care that we can to our patients.
The third clinical objective that I would like to incorporate is one that I have noticed people having a hard time doing and this is to discuss end-of-life (EOL) care issues and advance directives with older patients and their families. EOL can be very hard to bring up to family members and patients because it is never known how it will be received, with what type of reaction they are going to have. I have discussed EOL with my patients and their family members but never as a provider would, and this might prove to be a challenging task which is why I would like to do it. The plan of approach to take for this objective will depend on the situation at hand and the rapport that is built with the patients and family members.
